Press Release 6/6/08
AHOY ME HEARTIES! HARBOUR INCENTIVE GROUP COMMANDEERED BY PIRATES Sydney, Australia: 6th June, 2008 Normally, news of a hijacked ship on Sydney Harbour would be a disaster but not so for the new ‘Pirates on Sydney Harbour’ package launched this month by The Observatory Hotel and EastSail. The only risk of disaster with this hijacking would be for the incentive teams and corporate groups not to find Captain Blackbeard’s treasure.
The ‘Pirates on Sydney Harbour’ package will have unexpecting participants ‘shakin’ in their boots’ from the start as a nail-biting commandeering of EastSail yachts transpires. Team members quickly learn their fate as their pirate-skipper orders the crew to help find the missing treasure…and the race begins.
The treasure hunt consists of cryptic clues that reveal the location of the next clue, and one by one, they slowly reveal the secret to Blackbeard’s missing treasure. But that’s not where the fun ends. A pirate themed feast awaits the hungry sea soldiers at the luxurious, five-star Observatory Hotel, located in The Rocks. To the group’s surprise, they learn that they will be spending the night at the elegant hotel to rest their weary heads and shaky sea-legs.
Jane Hardie, EastSail Sails Manager is looking forward to the surprise on participants’ faces when they realise they are not simply there for a leisurely afternoon of sailing on the harbour.
‘’Groups will be shocked but pleasantly surprised with how the afternoon, and in fact, the entire evening unfolds. Sydney Harbour will be the stunning backdrop to an afternoon of pirate theatrics that will be masterfully played out by EastSail skippers and staff. And there isn’t a better way to reward participants at the end of the afternoon than with a lavish pirate themed feast and five-star accommodation in one of Sydney’s finest hotels.” She said.
Patrick Griffin, Regional Managing Director, Orient-Express Hotels, Australia added, “The new package really will offer domestic and international conference and incentive travel bookers a new and exciting group activity that will not only show off our dazzling harbour city but will provide a totally unique and above all, fun experience for their clients or internal teams.”

EastSail competing in Hamilton Island Race Week

2008 Hamilton Island Race Week The 2008 Hamilton Island Race Week is billed as one of the Worlds “must do “events. Tropical warm days mixed with light to moderate winds ensured superb conditions for the on and off water activities. EastSail, this year entered our Beneteau 40.7 RYA into the Racer-Cruiser division (some 70 yachts). Fully crewed by current and past sailing school students, all of whom regularly race in the students races and skippered by Olympic coach Dayne Sharp. In training RYA displayed some great performances, with good spinnaker handling, smart use of the currents and plenty of grinding power when short tacking up shore lines was required so we hope they can repeat this in the series to be run in August.

The Seven Sided Offshore Trip The seven sided offshore adventure sailing trip is on again - following the success of last years voyage our Beneteau 40.7 RYA is agin heading north in July skippered by RYA Yachtmaster instructors Rob Evans and Jesse Porter. It will be a scenic way to cover the RYA Competent Crew, Dayskipper or Coastal Skipper course and learn more about coastal sailing, living aboard a yacht for 6 days whilst building up valuable sea miles.
Last year the crews saw some great sights - dolphins play at the bow, turtles floating by, whales putting on the most incredible show of breeching and sailing through the night with a full moon, there were also some challenges put to the crews.
Much planning was required to navigate the Great Sandy Straights (inside Fraser Island), timing the tides and shallow areas, getting inside and outside of the Wide Bay Bar, and the occasional 35k wind that tested all on board. With a strong and well prepared yacht, the crew came through all that was put to them, and gained some invaluable experiences that will put them in great stead for their future sailing careers.
Eastsail are doing the trips again next year… why not have a look at coming along, it is a great experience. Check out our dates for 2008
