Start Yachting Course - EastSail Sailing School
The perfect course for beginner sailors.
Taught on the beautiful Sydney Harbour, the Start Yachting Course is the perfect place to start. This RYA sailing school course covers the fundamentals of sailing – including terminology and wind awareness and skills like, knot tying, steering and sail trim.. At EastSail, you will be at the helm of our exciting keel boats right from the first lesson and be able to comfortably perform all the basic learn to sail manoeuvres of sailing by the end of the course.
Start Yachting Course Details - EastSail Sailing School
No previous experience required for these beginner sailing lessons! At out sailing school we will teach you everything you need to know to how to learn to sail. Our class sizes are an intimate 5 people or fewer. By the end of this course you will understand terminology and the importance of wind direction. You will also know how to rig and prepare the yachts for sailing and basic right of way rules. You will be able to tie basic knots and execute manoeuvres of tacking and gybing.
Option 1: Start Yachting Course - 2 day weekend
Learn all the basic skills and spend the weekend aboard with us. Starting at 9am Saturday till 4pm Sunday you will learn to sail on Sydney Harbour. An EastSail student race and meals aboard are included.
2 Day Course:
- Cost $695 or 3 x 2 day courses $1995. We recommend the RYA course handbook $29 and RYA log book $20.
- Dates: May 12-13, May 26-27, June 16-17, June 23-24, July 7-8, July 21-22
Option 2: Start Yachting Course - part time (available October-April)
Another way to complete the course is to do 4 x 3 hour onboard lessons plus an EastSail student race for $695. We also recommend the RYA learn to sail booklet and log book ($49) which can be collected from the office or express posted to you for $12. This course option is available on Saturday mornings throughout summer.

The RYA Start Yachting course is the first 2 days of the RYA Competent Crew course. To achieve the RYA Competent Crew certificate, add 2 x 2 day weekend live aboard courses to the Start Yachting Course and pay a special package rate, including the Competent Crew handbook, RYA log book and RYA Start Yachting and Competent Crew certificates.
