International Certificate of Competence - ICC
Complete the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for your ticket to hassle-free sailing around the world!
EastSail is accredited with the RYA to offer the International Certificate of Competence of Pleasure Craft – otherwise known as the ICC.
The ICC is essentially a ‘boat license’ that many harbour masters and authorities demand from owners or charterer skippers around the world – it is documentary assurance that the holder is a competent skipper. Requirements for an ICC vary from country to country, but holding one is important when boating in foreign countries.
Sailing ICC
You can either undergo RYA training up to Dayskipper level (shorebased and practical) to simply apply for your ICC with the RYA or if you are an experienced sailor with good theoretical knowledge you can be assessed by an RYA instructor / examiner. The ICC assessment consists of practical and theory elements that will be assessed over half a day aboard one of our 10-12m yachts for $795. A full day is required to assess 2 people $1295. If you already hold an RYA Dayskipper or Coastal Skipper Certificate you can apply directly to the RYA for an ICC.
Power ICC to 10 metres
You can either enrol into our 2 day RYA power boat level 2 course and simply apply for your ICC with the RYA or if you are an experienced powerboat skipper with good theoretical knowledge you can be assessed by an RYA instructor / examiner. The ICC assessment consists of practical and theory elements that will be assessed over half a day aboard one of our small motor boats. A full day is required to assess 2 people. If you hold an RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate you can apply directly to the RYA for an ICC.
International Certificate of Competence FAQ's
Many European countries have signed up to Resolution 40 from which the ICC originates, or its predecessor Resolution 14. Although Greece, Spain and Portugal have not signed this agreement, you are still likely to be asked for an ICC in these countries. The RYA website provides guidance on boating in Europe and you should always check with a charter company as to the current requirements of the country prior to organising a charter.
Please note
Most charter companies in Europe require at least one person on board to hold a VHF radio license. We offer a 1 day Radio Operators Course. Please enquire with the team if you need this.
