Marine Radio Operator's Course
Essential knowledge for any keen seaman or woman looking to expand their skillset or obtain the RYA Coastal and Offshore Yachtmaster Certificate.
A Marine Radio licence is a useful addition to your repertoire as a sailor, and EastSail’s course includes operations of VHFDSC (Short Range) Radio communications as well as HF DSC (Long Range) Radio communications. This course can be taken in order to meet the requirements of your RYA Coastal and Offshore Yachtmaster certificate, or NSCV Master Class V (TDM ME501A). If you’re looking to sail overseas a radio certificate is indispensable and under ISAF rules at least 2 crew members aboard racing yachts are required to have a license.

You will be provided with a copy of extensive course notes on arrival or you can read the Radio Operators Handbook and go through the sample exam revision questions on line prior to the course at http://www.amc.edu.au/handbooks. There is a test at the end of the day that is marked externally before your certificate can be issued, a process which can take up to 2 weeks. This course is held at Mosman, near the ferry jetty and run by instructors from OMTC. It is a requirement to supply identification (such as a driver’s licence, passport or medicare card) and a USI number for this course. Please go to www.usi.gov.au to create this.
